Delicate suturing and minimized scarring
Careful suturing that preserves the natural shape of the ear helps reduce concerns about scarring.

Systematic aftercare
With customized management that considers the recovery process, side effects are minimized and satisfaction is increased.

What is the SMAS layer?
The face is composed of five layers.
Skin – Subcutaneous fat – SMAS – Ligaments – Deep fascia
The SMAS layer is a thin fascial layer located beneath the skin and subcutaneous fat. As we age, it also sags along with the skin. If only the skin is lifted without addressing the SMAS layer, the lifting effect may be reduced, and it can also lead to more noticeable scarring or “pixie ear” deformity.
At RINE Plastic Surgery, the SMAS layer is lifted together to provide longer-lasting and more powerful lifting results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an SMAS face and neck lift, and what does it improve?
It is a lifting surgery that improves wrinkles and sagging caused by aging by lifting both the skin layer and the SMAS layer. The goal is a naturally smoother, more youthful facial appearance.
How long does the surgery take, and what is the recovery like?
The surgery takes about 3 hours. Suture removal is usually 7–10 days later, recovery is about 2 weeks, and 3 follow-up visits are listed. Sedation is used for anesthesia.
Why would I choose this instead of a lift that only pulls the skin?
Because the SMAS layer also sags with age, lifting only the skin can reduce the lifting effect and may lead to more noticeable scarring or a pixie ear deformity. Lifting the SMAS layer together is described as providing stronger and longer-lasting results.
Who is this procedure recommended for?
It is recommended when you want a clear lifting effect over a wide area, want to address the root causes of wrinkles and sagging, have not seen enough improvement from other lifting procedures, have aging that has progressed beyond what other methods can effectively treat, want to improve deep wrinkles, or want to restore skin elasticity.
What makes this lifting method different?
It uses an extended dual deep plane approach with double release of retaining ligaments and multi-directional lifting. The skin and SMAS are widely dissected in two separate layers, which is described as helping improve both deep wrinkles and fine wrinkles and being effective for complex sagging issues.
How is the face lift portion done?
First, the design is planned for the individual face and an incision is made along the planned line. Then the skin and SMAS layer are widely dissected from the temple to behind the ear while releasing retaining ligaments. After that, the sagging SMAS and skin are pulled in multiple directions, firmly fixed, and excess skin is removed. Finally, the area is carefully sutured to minimize scarring and enhance the lifting effect.
How is the neck lift portion done?
After the design and incision, a wide dissection is performed from behind the ear to the neck to analyze the underlying causes. Then the platysma muscle is lifted upward and firmly fixed to redefine the jawline and neck line, excess sagging skin is removed, and the incision area is carefully sutured.
What kind of results can I expect?
The procedure is described as improving deep wrinkles and sagging from the face to the neck at the same time. It aims to create a smoother facial line, improve severe sagging and nasolabial folds, address the SMAS layer as the underlying cause of sagging, and provide long-lasting effects with minimal scarring.
Is there any recovery support after surgery?
Yes. A healing device called Healite is described as being used for faster recovery. It uses broad-spectrum infrared laser light to help promote incision wound recovery and reduce healing time, pain, and inflammatory responses.
Will the scars be very noticeable?
The scars may look red for about one month after surgery, but they gradually fade and may become faint lines after about 3–6 months. The incision is made along the ear line to make the scar less visible, and careful suturing is used to reduce scarring concerns.
How long can the lifting effect last?
The effect is described as lasting for at least 10 years because the procedure involves thorough dissection up to the SMAS layer. At the same time, it notes that aging continues, so sagging may gradually reappear over time.
